The Anchorage 2020: Anchorage Bowl Comprehensive Plan calls for the creation of watershed management plans throughout the Municipality to help guide development in all Anchorage watersheds. The Little Campbell Creek Watershed Plan is a team effort between the Municipality of Anchorage, federal and state resource management agencies, and local citizen groups.Little Campbell Creek Watershed Management Plan Vision:
The Little Campbell Creek (LCC) Watershed Management Plan provides management guidance for development within the watershed designed to maintain a healthy suburban watershed that is a network of natural fish and wildlife habitat, residential neighborhoods, and commercial areas that benefit Anchorage’s residents through their aesthetic, economic, quality of life, and recreational interactions. The waterways within this watershed provide clean water and good habitat for recreation and aquatic life. This vision will be realized and preserved though the adoption and implementation of the goals of the LCC Watershed Plan.Little Campbell Creek Watershed Management Plan Mission:
The LCC Watershed Management Plan provides goals and implementation strategies that maintain and protect existing watershed functions and facilitates the recovery of impaired watershed conditions. The Plan is an affordable and effective tool developed with input from residents and stakeholders, state and federal agencies, and local organizations. The Plan provides recommendations for promoting watershed awareness and encourages active stewardship by residents and businesses that furthers watershed health, meets regulatory requirements and is supported by the community. LCC Watershed Management Plan will identify a suite of implementation strategies to improve the future condition of the LCC watershed.Little Campbell Creek Watershed Management Plan Goals:
WATER QUALITY-Goal 1. Improve overall water quality in LCC and prevent further degradation.WATER QUANTITY-Goal 2. Reduce the potential damage from flood hazards and prevent habitat degradation along LCC.
TERRESTRIAL HABITAT-Goal 3. Maintain and expand wildlife corridors and riparian habitat within the watershed.
AQUATIC HABITAT-Goal 4. Improve fish passage and channel habitat to support all life cycles of fish and creek function in the watershed.
RECREATIONAL AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES-Goal 5. Promote recreational and economic opportunities along LCC and throughout the watershed.
COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION-Goal 6. Promote watershed awareness and community stewardship for a healthy watershed.
OPEN SPACE-Goal 7. Protect and maintain lands that support healthy watershed functions and services.
DATA ACQUISITION-Goal 8. Identify significant data gaps in watershed and create programs to obtain that data.
